NEW JOURNALISM
From Monday, 15 May 2017 to Tuesday, 30 May 2017
What are the roads open for journalism in the XXI century?
It is true that journalism is coming to its end or is it just the beginning? How can we guarantee the fundamental human rights of access to information and representation for everyone in the Internet age? What is knowledge, how is it generated and how is it managed at present?
We are observing the change of paradigm in the field of journalism, a change that contain lots of other changes inside it. The most obvious one may be the consolidation of digital platforms, while paper is still alive. But this is only one of many changes. The connections between big enterprise groups and media have never been so eminent, and the raison d’être of journalism has never been challenged so much.
The speed, the substitution of publication rhythms by constant publication, or simply the facility of interaction with the reader and by the reader are just the top of the iceberg, which is constantly growing. Are big data, post-truth and fake news simply different sides to the same reality? Who are the points of contact? How can we maintain, encourage, or spread critical thinking amidst this new context?
For this stay in Faber we would like to invite residents to work on new directions that journalism is taking. We want to outline, to describe and to explain the changes that have happened in this area, to investigate why it is valid, to call it into question and to see how we are affected by new forms of transmission and reproduction of information.
