Matthias Friedrich explains the job of translator to English students

Matthias Friedrich (Trier, Germany) explained the job of translator to the English students of the Claude d'Olot Language Academy. Disclosing a number of curiosities around his profession, he highlighted the strategies he uses to translate Catalan expressions that do not exist in German into his mother tongue. Furthermore, while discussing the profession of translator, he was keen to know which books written in other languages were favourites among the students and whether they pay attention to the details of their translations.

In his talk, Matthias Friedrich also shared with the students his day-to-day life in western Germany and pointed out some differences he finds with daily life in Catalonia.

Matthias Friedrich has worked as a literary translator since 2018 and focuses on literature from Norway, Denmark and Catalonia. He was at Faberllull from 21 to 27 January to translate Jo! Memòries d'un metge filòsof (Me! Memoirs of a Philosopher Physician) a novel by Prudenci Bertrana published in 1925.
