This spring, the capital of La Garrotxa is delving into its textile past through the Olot Tèxtil cycle. During these months, the city will be filled with shows, concerts and exhibitions that assert the territory's sewing past. The “Weaving a Web is Akin to Embroidering a Cosmos” is part of this series.

On Tuesday, the residents visited the Garrotxa Museum to see two of the exhibitions scheduled in Olot first-hand. Firstly, they saw “Andrinòpoli”, the collaborative installation by Maria Camila Sanjinés. It is a space halfway between exhibition and construction, where the concepts of resistance, negotiation, narrative and dialogue are explored. The installation delves into the meaning of the colour red in fabrics and its historical role in power structures, where it was used to mark economic and political hierarchies which, as still occurs today, were seen as immovable.

They then swapped rooms to enter the world of "Fields of Chintz" by Mireia Coromina Porta. The artist advocates fabric as a transmitter and repository of cultural memory and a source of colonial and ecological domination. Coromina was keen to reveal what chintz shows, hides, covers and unveils.

The Faberllull residents were shown around the two exhibitions by Maria Camila Sanjinés and Mireia Coromina Porta, who explained the exhibitions in detail. They also met with the Olot textile artisans grouped in the La Iera association, with whom they were able to talk and exchange opinions.
