Joint reading in different languages at the Isop bookshop in Olot
Translators participating in the Faberllull residency seminar read the same excerpt from Irene Solà’s novel Et vaig donar ulls i vas mirar les tenebres, translated into English, Italian, Chinese, Hungarian, Swedish, Dutch, Russian, Portuguese and Spanish. The event took place this Saturday afternoon at the Isop bookshop in Olot.
The attending audience was able to compare the nuances and interpretations that a text acquires when translated into various languages, while also discussing with the translators the difficulties they encountered in adapting the Catalan work into their native language. The activity served as the closing of the seminar dedicated to the translation of Irene Solà, which began last Wednesday at the Faberllull Olot residency.
For four days, a dozen translators explored Irene Solà’s visual atlas and sources of inspiration, conveyed doubts to the author about the novel Et vaig donar ulls i vas mirar les tenebres, walked in the Guilleries and Montseny massifs, the book’s settings, and participated in a collective exchange of impressions and knowledge.
