S. Nombuso Dlamini explores cultural engagement with a group of young people in Olot
Canadian anthropologist and education professor S. Nombuso Dlamini participated in a roundtable discussion with several young people from Olot. Entitled “In our twenties... are we a socially and culturally engaged generation?” the participants shared various reflections on how young people interact and live in communities, and how they approach and engage in the governance of the territories they inhabit. The conversation took place this Saturday at the Núria Social auditorium in Olot.
The debate was organised by the Faberllull residency in collaboration with the Pegàs de Foc debate club, a gathering place for young people from Garrotxa and Ripollès interested in the transformative potential of culture. Dedicated to the territory and community networks, they approach various struggles including feminism, anti-racism, anti-fascism, LGBTQI+ rights, land preservation, environmentalism, eco-anxiety, tourism, housing, mobility, as well as cultural, economic and religious issues, among others.
S. Nombuso Dlamini is an education professor at the University of York, Toronto (Canada). Her primary interests centre on new youth perspectives in politics, urban environments and socio-cultural ties in urban development, with a particular focus on how youth contribute to urban spaces and city life. Dlamini’s research delves into youth activism, youth identities and the gender experiences of racialised populations in Canada. Currently, she is undertaking a residency at Faberllull where she is examining data from two research projects concerning black Canadian youth in Ontario.
