Residents in the Resilience project meet with La Iera and XES Garrotxa
Today the residents in the Resilience project met with two local entities, La Iera and XES Garrotxa. The meeting began with the explanation of a representative of La Iera, where the residents were able to learn that the meaning and purpose of this association is to create a common space between local creators and artisans, to weave a network of support, have more visibility and be a real option among the inhabitants of the territory. Next, each of the residents intervened explaining in what way they were directly or indirectly involved with the craft and what it meant for their people and their culture, and they showed images of the crafts of their villages, explaining the meaning, the processes, some anecdotes, difficulties, future challenges as well as highlighting the role of women.
With their contributions, an interesting interaction has been created thanks to which questions and curiosities have arisen addressed to them, and as a result the conclusion has been reached that in indigenous cultures, craftsmanship is still deeply rooted in the culture and tradition and is a very important part in the life of these peoples, in a holistic way. The link with craftsmanship is very strong. On the other hand, in Western societies like ours, this link has been lost, it has been broken and that is why craftsmanship is not valued, it is not in the place of tradition where it should belong; this topic has opened up new questions and answers have been explored on how this link with the artisan origin could be rebuilt. At this point, after an hour-long meeting, they went to visit some of the local members of La Iera, such as L'Artiga, Carlota Rodríguez’s textile shop-workshop and Glauc; the residents were able to get to know the origin, process and operation of each of these projects.
