Johannes Christopher Gérard Offers Social Sculpture Workshop at Comú d'Andorra la Vella Art School
Students from the Comú d'Andorra art school have become social sculptors and created a collective and collaborative work of art with blankets, fabrics, plastics, ropes and chairs. As defined by German conceptual artist Joseph Beuys, a social sculpture is based on how human activity can structure and shape social relations or the environment. The concept focuses on the relationships between bodies, objects and the surrounding space.
The interdisciplinary artist Johannes Christopher Gérard (Netherlands) directed the workshop, held at the government exhibition hall on Tuesday. Gérard works in different disciplines, such as video, sound, photography, performance, land art installation and printmaking. He will be at Faber Andorra until 3 November to work on the in situ project Empty Time, which explores emptiness, time and silence, based on the social, rural and cultural context of La Massana.
