Glàfira Smith Presents ‘Trufa’ at Isop Bookstore in Olot
Illustrator Glàfira Smith (Valldoreix) presented the graphic novel Trufa (Truffle) at the Isop Bookstore in Olot on Thursday. She was accompanied by visual artist and Olot Art School teacher Mireia Coromina, who moderated the conversation.
Trufa shows life through the eyes of the eponymous black Labrador. His is a vision of the world in primary colours: red, yellow and blue, intertwined with the black and white story of his owner, José Luis, a successful, charming and bon vivant businessman. The novel offers a moving portrait of unconditional love and resilience, paying tribute to the special relationship between man and dog.
Graphically, it is unusual, since it is not made up entirely of cartoons; instead they are included within the visual language of each page. The novel has a dynamic narrative, with a fresh and organic style of drawing that intertwines the black and white of José Luis's story with the bright primary colours of Trufa's take on life.
Smith is an illustrator, creative director and audiovisual producer. She will be at Faberllull from 30 September to 10 October to work on the creation of an educational book about sunglasses for German publishing house Mixtvision.
