Workshop on poetry to fight violence with Carolina Otero at Maria Moliner Spanish School in Andorra
Poet and singer/songwriter Carolina Otero led a writing workshop for secondary students at the Maria Moliner Spanish School in Andorra. The students worked with excerpts from Spanish poets who denounce different sorts of violence, from war to xenophobia. The texts selected, in chronological order, included poems from emblematic writers like Angela Figuera Aymerich, Gloria Fuertes and Miriam Reyes, as well as verses the resident, Carolina Otero, will include in her unpublished collection of poems Indoeuropeu de cops, which is the literary foundation for her video-art project denouncing past and present violence against women.
During the workshop, the students learned about formal issues and Otero proposed appropriative writing techniques, such as erasure. This was an individual exercise that was later used to create a poem as a group.
