For Merle Berfin Altinisik’s activity at Faberllull Olot, a visit was arranged to the El Modern cinema center in Girona. El Modern is located in the beautiful old center of Girona, in a building with a rich history. Laura Merino from El Modern gave Melek a tour of the building and its facilities, open to anyone and everyone who wants to create in the audiovisual sector. The center had a small studio for shoots, an editing room, a public cinema with special programming by critics and programs for newcomers who want to break into the game-design industry. For an independent artist, public centers like these present incredible opportunities for creation, meeting collaborators and providing access to the means of production in the audiovisual sector. Cross-cultural collaboration is one of the main focuses of Melek’s practice, and as a center which encourages international as well as local artists to create in Catalunya, visiting the El Modern inspired many new ideas for future projects for Melek.
