The transformative power of stories. Narratives of war in the Italian scene

The theme of war in the Italian theatre of the 21st century is strongly influenced by narrative theatre, an expression that is used to indicate a subjective and diegetic performing modality, in which the questions about the war and how to metabolise the tragedies associated to it arise in different works. Narrative theatre performances bring to light events of national and international relevance and treat them from intimate and personal points of view, while highlighting the way in which each person can exert a substantial influence on the legacy of past and present issues.

The aim of the research is to analyse a corpus of works by authors of the so-called "second generation of narrators", including Ascanio Celestini, Giuliana Musso, Davide Enia and Mario Perrotta; it will thus be possible to trace the processes of the construction of history that reveal the contradictions of traumatic events of the past and the present, with the aim of leading the viewers to take a stance and develop new perspectives for a more conscious future.
