Second lecture by Esther Lázaro

Researcher Esther Lázaro has given today’s second lecture, which was titled “The presence of war in performances at the Avignon Festival and the Avignon Off 2023”.

After a revision of this year’s programme at the two festivals happening in July at the French capital for theatre, and after having seen most of the performances in the Avignon Festival, and some in the Avignon Off, this talk features the presence of war in the official programmes to then zoom in on the countries the performances and their creators come from, on how war is staged and on the approach said performances adopt. Finally, the researcher focuses on the means used to represent the Spanish Civil War in a French contemporary play, Paquita!, a piece within the genre “theatre devoted to memory” and which premiered at Avignon Off.
