Andrea Mayr-Stalde presents the project TurtleStitch,

During the conference on Saturday, May 6th, three international projects were presented to a large audience of teachers. The presentation of the Austrian artist and media developer Andrea Mayr-Stalde introduced the concept of combining logical thinking and coding with embroidery machines. The project, known as TurtleStitch, is an Open Educational Resource based on Snap! and is available for free.
It enables artistic expression in many ways, for examples by allowing freehand line drawings to be recorded in the coding environment and transferred onto tangible products such as T-shirts. This technique aligns with the Maker movement, which emphasizes hands-on creation.

Conference participants had the opportunity to observe a wide range of coded patterns, many of which were generated designs. Additionally, three workshops were held to guide teachers through the necessary coding steps to develop an embroidery pattern. This hands-on session also provided an explanation of the different components and techniques behind a CNC embroidery machine. Furthermore, the teachers had the chance to have their own individual codes embroidered, resulting in patterns featuring geometrical graphical artifacts as well as floral motifs.
