Streamakers event
The Streamakers Fair consisted of an outdoor exhibition of projects on energy transition and responsible consumption that the students did in their schools. More than 500 students exhibited their robotics projects at the Steammakers Fair during the morning at the Olot Fair. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., 35 schools from all over Catalonia participated, including the four high schools in Olot and the one in Besalú. There were also students from Alcoy, Granada, Perpignan or Cantabria. In total, more than 500 students and 100 projects that made the competition double its capacity in this edition.
John Maloney explains: "I loved seeing the student project expo on Friday. Listening to the students explain their work, it was clear that they had put much effort into their projects and had learned much in the process: STEM, teamwork, how to build things, how to solve problems -- and how to present what they had learned in English."
"On Saturday, we had the opportunity to share MicroBlocks at the Robolot conference, first in the keynote and then during three afternoon MicroBlocks workshops led by Bernat Romagosa. Participants in the workshops learned how to program two different microcontrollers. They started with an animated name tag program, then moved on to create a rock-paper-scissors game for the micro:bit that was activated by shaking the board. After that, they switched to the ED1 board, and enhanced their game with colorful graphics. Some of the participants went to on explore making music, using sensors, and connecting additional components", said Maloney.
