First day of the Cinema Lliure Connecta residency at Teatre Mar i Terra in Palma
On 8 November, at Teatre Mar i Terra in the Santa Catalina neighbourhood (Palma), Aida Méndez has shared her know-how on marketing and communication at the Cinema Lliure Connecta II residency.
“If you know what your project stands for and how to sell it, you can adapt this information to what is required of you”. This is the summary of the first half of a session with intense exchange of interests and bits of knowledge between the residents and the speaker.
Today’s sessions were devoted to essential elements in communication, such as the synopsis, the poster and the dossier for a project. On the one hand, the synopsis influences on how the story we are telling is perceived; depending on which elements we focus on, we will attract different types of audiences or will highlight different sides of the product.
On the other hand, the poster needs to be able to explain the film or short film with only one image and reflect the film’s genre; depending on the kind of image and colour code we use, the film or short film will be included in one specific category.
Last, the dossier can have several purposes: development, press or sales. The contents in it need to be adapted to each of these goals. In each of them, the visual concept needs to be very clear; the more linked it is to the project, the better outcome we will have.
