Visit of Maya Feile at Barcelona University’s C.R.A.I. Biblioteca de Reserva

On September 28 I had the pleasure of paying a visit to Barcelona University’s C.R.A.I. Biblioteca de Reserva (Special Collections library) thanks to the generous organisational efforts of my colleague Dr Marina Ruiz, who also led the tour. The Biblioteca de Reserva holds an impressive collection of early modern books and incunables and the visit enabled me to get to grips with some of the materials kept in the collection and to develop a sense of the size and richness of the collection. We also had the chance to discuss matters relating to José Manuel Peramás (1732-93), the Catalan Jesuit on whom I have worked for several years now and some of whose own original works are held in the collection; we even had the opportunity to discuss the possibility of organising an event or book launch when my translation of Peramás’s poetry comes out next year. In addition to showing me around the library and special storerooms, Marina was kind enough to take me up to some more restricted parts of the roof, from which we were able to enjoy wonderful views of the university buildings on a glorious sunny morning in Barcelona. Many thanks to Marina and her colleagues at the C.R.A.I. Biblioteca de Reserva for opening their doors to me and giving me such a warm welcome: it was a very enriching experience.
