In an increasingly technological society, it is necessary to think about what humanities and humanisms are needed to explain human beings and the changes they face. With this aim, and together with Faberllull Olot, managed by the Institut Ramon Llull in collaboration with the City Council of Olot, a residency has been organized to put in the center of the debate the multidirectional relations that are created between these disciplines and their applications in the health sciences.

To address this issue, and in relation to the research projects carried out by the Observatory, various activities have been organized with two of the residents of Faberllull Olot. In the first, scheduled for April 15 at 7 pm, the physicist and historian of science Xavier Roqué will discuss the relationship between literature and science, based on the analysis of scientific and bioethical interpretations proposed by Frankenstein , by Mary Shelley. The humanist and nurse Iris Parra will be the speaker of the second scheduled conference and will analyze public health policies and the participation of artistic and cultural agents in life support networks in Catalonia. This conference will be held on April 20 at 9:30 a.m. The remaining sessions scheduled for 2021 will be held between June and October.

The Observatory, based in the Hospital of Olot, was born with the aim of promoting the development of the humanities integrated in the health sciences as a fundamental tool in the acquisition of transversal competencies, emphasizing the points of intersection between health, society and culture.

The Observatory of Humanities in Medicine focuses its activities in 2021 on the relationship between health sciences, technology and the humanities, with the aim of exploring the symbiosis between the different fields and taking advantage of the resources they offer. Unlike other occasions, the sessions will be held in virtual format and can be followed live through the Instagram profile of the Fundació Hospital d’Olot i Comarcal de la Garrotxa.
