Conversation with Jesús Tomás, sea turtles specialist in Spain

For about one hour, I have had a very interesting conversation with one of the most experienced scientist specialized with sea turtles in Spain and the world. Our conversation was oriented towards society and natural history of the Loggerhead, also named Tortuga boba (Caretta caretta). The presence of loggerhead turtles nesting in the Spanish Mediterranean coasts has been documented since last 20 years, and during the last years there have been more nests along the Spanish beaches. However, there is not enough knowledge yet to confirm the reasons of this apparent increase, or if this tendency is going to continue along the years. The work between the government, researchers, fisheries and NGO's is very positive, although there is necessary that the touristic sector get more involved in the common effort to protect the sea turtles in the upcoming years, as well more information for the society using the same beaches during the summer, in order to protect the nesting activity. For my book, I pretend to use this information to put in perspective the situation of the sea turtles in other countries.
