In an administration in transformation, what is the role of the archives? The transition from the paper world to the digital world that has led to legislative changes derived from laws 39/2015 and 40/2015 brings us all to a reflection on our functions, objectives and challenges. Are we ready? What is the situation of our administrations? Do we have technological tools available to make this change? The session held at the Garrotxa County Archive has brought together archivists of the region, as well as other professionals from the administration, who are currently working on their transformation. In three hours, we presented the different common tools provided by the “Consorci d’Administració Oberta de Catalunya” but also the records management tools that archivists have and can help in a better implementation. The benefits that records management brings to e-government are many without a multidisciplinary work in which process and organizational technicians, computer scientists, archivists and other professionals share their knowledge and methodology, the information systems will be weak and we will not improve our administration and give better service to citizens. An intervention from the design of the information systems and the computer applications that we use will define the success of a good operation and only with an intervention in all phases will achieve quality information, useful for the citizenship and the administration and that can be preserved and end up becoming our heritage. Only in this way we will have a real transformation of the administration, a transparent and efficient digital government. And the archivists will be there to get it.
