Polluting Drama workshop. The Mediterranean.

December 2024

Faberllull Olot is hosting the second Polluting Drama Mediterranean writing workshop for playwrights, promoted by Tantarantana Theatre. The workshop focuses on topics tied to the Mediterranean and its area of influence. The participants will be asked to write about what can’t be voiced on each side of the Mediterranean, a premise that potentially encompasses topics like colonialism and post-colonialism, the crossroads of the three great monotheistic religions and the various cultures in fields such as alchemy, theology and science, and sea voyages for a whole range of social, political, emotional and mythical reasons.

Using a system based on sharing and appropriation, the residents will work using ongoing dialogue accompanied by the workshop leaders through guided writing exercises and prompts. This Polluting Drama workshop is conceived, put together and given according to the methodology developed by playwright Albert Tola and director Rodrigo García Olza (Nigredo Teatro) and coordinated, managed and produced by Tantarantana Theatre.

The Faberllull residence will be welcoming theatre professionals from the Goethe-Institut in Rabat, Neuköllner Oper in Berlin, Teatre Principal in Palma, Inestable in Valencia and Tantarantana Theatre in Barcelona. Together they will create a theatre constellation, writing plays that mirror each other. Each participant will meet with the others to explore dramatic spaces, polluting dramas and historic and contemporary themes from the view of the different latitudes.

The experience begins this December at Faberllull and will continue with another workshop in 2025 outside of the residence to complete the creative work, culminating with publication of the texts written in a specialised media outlet.
