Bio

Albert Tola is a playwright, poet, translator and playwriting teacher. With a degree in dramaturgy from the Barcelona Theatre Institute, he completed his training at the University of the Arts in Berlin (UDK) and at the Sala Beckett in Barcelona, with José Sanchis Sinisterra, Abilio Estévez and Rosa-Victòria Gras.

As a playwright he has published (Ediciones de Teatro del Astillero, Primero Acto, ADE Teatro, Instituto del Teatro Ediciones) and has premiered or is in the process of premiering in cities and countries such as Barcelona and Madrid, Chile, Mexico, Ecuador, Turkey, Greece, Germany, Morocco, France and Colombia several of the plays he has written: Salento, El último secreto de James Dean, Niño fósil, Las noches malas de Amir Shrinyan (Carlota Soldevila Award, Teatre Lliure), Una mala noche (Akadèmia Theatre Award for micro-theatre), Los niños oscuros de Morelia (Jorge Eliecer Gaitán Award, Colombia), Vino lunar, La lenta perquisa, Sarab, Hostal Solo de Medianoche, El palmeral (part of the project Cicatrizar del Nuevo Teatro Fronterizo), Últimas notas de Santiago Rojas.

Some of his plays have been translated into English, French, German, Greek, Arabic, Chinese and Turkish.

Since 2005 she has been teaching classes, workshops and tutorials on writing for theatre and film, and coordinates with Teatre Tantarantana collective dramaturgical research international laboratories (Festival Grec, Iberescena, Sala Beckett, Nuevo Teatro Fronterizo, Teatro Tantarantana, La Maldita Vanidad, Umbral de Primavera, SGAE, C.E.C.C, Bande à parte, Escuela de Psicología y Cábala, Espacio Philae).

He has premiered in theatres such as: Teatro Akademia, Teatro Tantarantana, Sala Beckett, Sala Cuarta Pared, Teatro Nacional de Cataluña, Teatro Real, Teatro Naves del Matadero, Teatro Libre, Teatro del CCCB, Teatro Nacional Doña Maria II de Lisboa, Teatro Jorge Eliecer Gaitán de Bogotá, Teatro Sucre de Ecuador, and on numerous occasions during the Grec Festival.

Linked to the Goethe Institut, the Nuevo Teatro Fronterizo and the Sala Beckett, since 2010 he has been developing his other vocation: translating playwriting workshops and theatre texts from German. In 2012, together with actor and director Rodrigo García Olza, he founded the company Nigredo, which has been in constant dramaturgical, production and pedagogical activity since its foundation.
