Nordic Countries Translators Seminar

June 2024

The Nordic countries are a priority area for the Institute Ramon Llull Institut and one of the first actions to be taken by the literature department is the organization of a seminar for translators from this geographical area since this is the first so that Catalan literature can be read by Nordic readers.

The translator is the primary axis around which the projection of books in other languages and markets revolves, the main ally and advocate outside our space. The training of translators is the first indispensable step to penetrate a publishing market such as that of the Nordic countries, which is used to being supplied internally.

It is a pilot test, a translation seminar from Catalan to Danish and Swedish and vice versa, two of the Nordic languages with the most translators. This first program is a seed destined to grow. It will have the presence of two translators from Catalan to Swedish, and one translator from Swedish to Catalan; one translator from Catalan to Danish and two translators from Danish to Catalan.

The program will consist of work sessions on specific texts in the two directions from Catalan to Swedish and Danish and vice versa, on the one hand; and informative talks on the literary landscape from the classics to the current narrative, for another.
