This Thursday, Orfeó Popular Olotí hosted a screening of the short film Mariana by Andorran filmmaker Maria Caminal. Mariana, based on a true story, criticises abuse of immigrants and sexual abuse of women in the workplace. The short film stars well-known actors Nacho Guerreros (La que se avecina), Victoria Santos (Vis a vis, La Casa de Papel) and Jasmine Serra.

Mariana received support from the Government of Andorra and has been selected for four international film festivals: Amnesty International, New York International Women Festival, The Filmy Monks in India and Farcume in Portugal. Plus, it has been selected three times in Spain, including the shortlist for selection for the 2023 Goya Awards.

After screening the short, there was a panel discussion with director Maria Caminal; Catalina Sellas, president of Alba (La Garrotxa women’s association); Pilar Aiguabella of Xarxa de professionals d'equitat en els treballs; Anna Solà of SIAD la Garrotxa; and Jep Costa, from Cineclub Olot. They discussed discrimination and abuse against women.

Maria Caminal is a film director from Andorra who strives to raise awareness of women who go unheard through stories that focus on women. From 21 to 28 October, she will do an individual residency at Faberllull Olot to prepare her next feature film: Les dones de gel.
