Workshop by Robert Mizzi with members of the Diversand d'Andorra association
Canadian researcher Robert Mizzi met members of Diversand, the Andorran association formed by people from the LGTBIQ community, at the La Llacuna Cultural Centre. The objective was to learn first-hand the community’s experiences in the country, as well as the challenges and obstacles they face in their day-to-day lives.
Prof. Mizzi also gave a workshop that tapped several practical cases to highlight the need to promote greater leadership within the LGBTQ+ space and to strengthen its representation and capacity for influence in the wider community. He also highlighted the importance of these leaders clearly and visibly expressing their support for LGBTQ+ people to combat homonormativity and cisnormativity, among other forms of oppression.
Robert Mizzi is a research and full professor with the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba (Canada). He will be staying at Faber Andorra until 18 May, writing an academic article posited on research around LGBTQ+ festivals in small communities and analysing the queer community’s lived experiences in Andorra.
