”Symbols of the skull” at Escola d'Art d'Olot, Mery Cuesta

As a resident at FaberLlull Olot, I carried out a return activity to the city of Olot visiting the Escola d'Art. The activity consisted of a presentation entitled "Symbology of the skull in the contemporary public sphere" and a cover design workshop for illustrators. At the conference we were able to discuss different lines of interpretation of the skull - such as its meaning as an anti-system symbol, its recent link with the world of haute couture, or its inclusion in the children's visual repertoire - to finally make some reflections on the proliferation of the image of the skull in our daily life. Next, once these symbolisms were understood, we worked with the 2nd Grade Illustration students on various models of book covers in order for them to show a practical understanding of the meanings projected by the skull. The activities were welcomed with a large number of people and great enthusiasm, and it was an enriching experience for everyone.
