The Cinema Lliure Connecta residency begins in Palma
The Teatre Principal in Palma has hosted the first day of the Cinema Lliure Connecta II residency, which brings together eight young audiovisual creators from Catalonia and the Balearic Islands and which is focused on production and distribution of film projects, after a first edition in 2021 that was devoted to screenplays.
At the beginning there was a brief introduction on Faberllull and Cinema Lliure, followed by a short presentation by each of the residents. Aida Méndez, expert in audiovisual distribution, offered the first masterclass of the residency.
Aida Méndez has spoken about the specificity of the audiovisual sector, where each product is unique, where it is impossible to know what will work and what will not; repeating a formula is not always conducive to success. It is essential to have in-depth knowledge of what the other professionals are working on and how the ecosystem is evolving.
Other key aspects in this session were funding options for projects, the film calendar and how it influences the distribution strategy, and the importance of assessing correctly the distribution costs and of identifying operational windows.
