Catalan Culture is international – and we can all contribute something to it!

I was invited to appear on Olot Televisió as part of their cultural programme, La Finestra, to discuss my current work at Faber and at the Centre for Catalan Studies, at Queen Mary, University of London. It may be surprising for some viewers to learn that an Irish person has come on the programme to talk in Catalan, but I felt it was important to inform people that Catalan is an international language, despite what some people may think. Furthermore, Catalan culture has an international following and appeal across Europe and further afield. In the same sense that Catalan culture is international, I wanted to highlight that the world is taking note on current affairs within the Spanish State – especially as cherished values around democracy are being attacked and put on trial. As queer individuals, we should be worried by these alarming events – especially when parties from the Far Right wheel out their “queer representatives” to then back and legitimise their toxic political agendas.
