“Narrative, phenomenology of pain, embodied subjectivity, and normativity of pain”

“Narrative, phenomenology of pain, embodied subjectivity, and normativity of pain”

On October 15 and October 23, I have given a presentation “Narrative, phenomenology of pain, embodied subjectivity, and normativity of pain” and “Phenomenology of subjectivity in pain: embodiment, storytelling, temporality, and normativity of pain” at the University of Andorra. I have talked about two different types of discourses: subjectivity in pain and patient in pain. We discussed advantages of phenomenological approach, the meanings of embodied experience, extended lived body, temporality of pain experience, intersubjective space, shared pain experience, notions of normality and normativity. After this introduction, I proposed to create a visual narrative of pain experience. This small exercise was followed by discussions in pairs.  I did not specify what kind of pain student can expresses and a surprising turn was to see that most of students gave a particular attention to an emotional pain.
