New Residency at Faber Llull on Theatre

New Residency at Faber Llull on Theatre

The idea for the project arises from the theater exercise “The Suppression of the Dragon” (based on the concept of the hero journey by Joseph Campell), in which scenic material in a form of a text is developed through the direct feeling of the physical oppression of another person.

Departing from this text they started to generate material in the form of installation. Performance and physical scores which allowed them to create a little theatrical piece.

In order to tackle the issue of social and psychological oppression at its core, it was decided to use the concept of “animalizing” as an abstract approach to generate characters. In concreted they decided to take as a departing point the universe of the Chickens as an analogy to humans. Searching similarities and differences as well as metaphors in the way these animals have to relate to each other and they behaviors. As well as the relationship of chickens to humans were worked out. Trying to find a way to put in a same space the ones that oppress and the ones that are being oppressed. Developing physical and spatial scores with (power) games.

A first work-in-progress version was shared with an audience in India as part of the Walking Touring Theater Festival.

The experience of presenting this piece in a different context leaded them to the desire to continue this artistic and social exploration with the sensation and the feedback that they had from the Asian subcontinent as well as investigating and imbibing with personal, local and global systems situations. The fact that they are an international collective also will help to give to the project the possibility of contrasting the universality of the themes they want to approach.

During Faber residency the collective is willing to create a piece where old material is being revisited, as well as new one that can come from the research, observation and the shearing and knowing from others in a new territorial and cultural context. Creating, like this, a versatile performance which can be presented in different languages and social-economic stratus.
