Touched nerves: on feelings in contemporary Catalan culture
From Monday, 20 May 2024 to Friday, 24 May 2024

May 2024
Affect studies is one of the most popular lines of theory and critique in the humanities and social sciences today. This is a reaction to the fact that feelings and corporal aspects have been underrated in Western thought since the Age of Enlightenment, considering reason and intellect far superior.
Faberllull is hosting its first residency related to Catalan studies. The residents will not only debate how feelings, emotions and passions are represented in cultural works (literature, film, fine art and music), but also which affective responses they awaken in the audience, which nerves they hit and how they make their audience act. Emotions move our bodies, bonding and separating them, but they are also subject to harsh socio-economic conditions.
There’s no one right way to interpret feelings. There are many threads, lines, dialects and trends, which all the work in sexuality and gender studies has brought to the forefront, moving far beyond the traditional education system. So, any approach goes if it invites understanding through the heart, brain and senses, through the whole body.
