Bio

Sarah Thomas is Associate Professor and department Chair of Brown University's Department of Hispanic Studies in Providence, Rhode Island (USA). She received her doctorate in Spanish literature and culture from New York University, and is a specialist in Iberian cultural studies. Her research and teaching focus on cinemas from the Spanish state, especially in Castilian and Catalan. Her first book, on the representation of childhood in the cinema of Spain's transition to democracy, will be published in Castilian translation with Cátedra in May 2024. Her current research project deals with the representation of subjectivity, space, and emotions in contemporary cinema by women filmmakers in the Spanish state, with a special focus on Catalan cinema. She is also a literary translator, and is currently at work on a Catalan-English translation of a novel by Montserrat Roig.

Project

During her stay at Faberllull, She will work on two projects: on the one hand, research and writing of article-length projects on the representation of female subjectivity, emotion, and affect in several films by Catalan women filmmakers, and on the other translating from Catalan to English Montserrat Roig's novel La veu melodiosa, a text wheere the representation of affect is central.
