Seminar ”Public and cultural participation: beyond the traditional management of arts and culture towards sustainable practices” at the UOC.
A space with the aim of exploring the connection between cities, public spaces and cultural commitment. With a focus on sustainability, relevant concerns have been addressed in light of the changing dynamics of urban environments and patterns of cultural participation.
In a constantly evolving world, cities have become vibrant epicenters of cultural expression and community participation, challenging traditional hierarchical structures. Urban public spaces play a fundamental role in shaping cultural participation, influencing people's interactions and engagement with artistic expression. These dynamic environments become scenarios where various forms of expression converge, stimulating creativity and fostering connection between people. However, to achieve inclusive and diverse cultural participation in public spaces, it is necessary to break down traditional barriers and adopt open and collaborative approaches. This implies the implementation of policies and programs that promote the participation of different social groups, cultural equity and the empowerment of local communities so that they are active agents in shaping their own cultural experience.
In this context, the need arises to explore and understand emerging trends and practices in urban cultural participation that challenge established norms.
This seminar analyzed how cities and their public spaces influence cultural participation beyond traditional management structures. It also aims to provide ideas and tools for cities and institutions to adapt their strategies and promote inclusive and diverse cultural participation in public spaces.
