Bio

Laura Santamaria is vice-rector for Culture and Language Policy. She was previously vice-rector for International Relations and Language Policy and, between 2011 and 2016, dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpretation at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).

She has a diploma in translation and interpretation, a degree in English philology and a doctorate in translation from the UAB. She is a tenured professor at the Department of Translation, Interpretation and East Asian Studies at the UAB, where she has taught general, legal and audiovisual translation at undergraduate levels, as well as subjects related to intercultural studies for postgraduate students.

Her research has focused mainly on audiovisual translation and, more specifically, cultural references, present both in scripts and in fiction in general, which she has related to intercultural studies, cognition, ideology and pragmatics. She has also researched the language model used by different media with the aim of analysing how decisions made during the translation process impact the reception of audiovisual productions.
