Bio

Francesco Ardolino (Rome, 1966) has a PhD in Catalan Philology and is a professor at the University of Barcelona.

Among his essays, the books La solitud de la paraula. Estudi sobre l'obra narrativa de Jordi Sarsanedas (The Solitude of the Word: A Study on the Narrative Work of Jordi Sarsanedas) (Serra d'Or Critics Award) and Entre el dogma i l'heretgia. Les influències de Dante en l'obra de Joan Maragall (Between Dogma and Heresy: Dante's Influences on the Work of Joan Maragall) (Joan Maragall Foundation Award and Serra d'Or Critics Award) are of note.

He has translated texts by contemporary Catalan authors into Italian and overseen the publication in Catalan of Italian classics from all eras. He recently curated the facsimile edition of the translation of Vida nova (New Life) by Manuel de Montoliu and the collective volumes La pàgina és la pell. Estudis sobre Felícia Fuster (The Page is the Skin: Studies on Felícia Fuster) and Escriure és reescriure. Anàlisi i testimonis en la literatura catalana actual (To Write is to Rewrite: Analysis and Testimonies in Current Catalan Literature).

He is vice-president of the Associazione Italiana di Studi di Catalanistica and director of the journals Compàs d'amalgama and Haidé: Estudis Maragallians. He is part of the team responsible for the critical edition of the complete works of Joan Maragall.
