Bio

Javier Quislant (Bilbao) has won several awards as a composer, including the XI Reina Sofía Prize in Music Composition, the Leonardo grant for cultural creators and researchers from the BBVA foundation 2020–2021, the MAEC-AECID grant for the Spanish Royal Academy in Rome 2020–2021, first prize in the Franz Schubert und die Musik der Moderne - Kompositionswettbewerb für Klaviertrio 2020, XXIV Composition Prize of the College of Spain in Paris – INAEM 2018 and Musik Förderungspreis der Stadt Graz 2017.

His catalogue includes everything from solo pieces to ensembles, orchestra, choral and chamber opera. He has worked with numerous international orchestras and ensembles and his work has been performed at many festivals in Austria, France and Germany. In 2018, his first chamber opera, Mirada antigua, debuted at the Graz Opera.

The residency at Faberllull was an exceptional experience, an opportunity to enjoy art from an intimate perspective and with considerable professional collaboration. During our time there, we premiered two pieces that came to life thanks to the talent and dedication of the Helix Trio performers and Joan Miquel Fiol, whose contributions were not only interpretative but human, too. The connection between composer and performer was woven in such a natural way that every rehearsal and every shared moment became an essential part of the creative process. The same happened with the President of the Federation of Musical Youth of Catalonia, Joan Magrané, the Secretary General Montserrat Faura, Marina Zamora and mentor Odile Auboin helping us at all times.

The hotel, which became a reflection and meeting space, allowed us to share thoughts and details, generating an atmosphere of trust and complicity that was reflected in each step of the project. Being able to share silences and conversations over breakfast, lunch and dinner or a coffee and a quiet chat added more than we could have ever imagined.

Of course, I must mention the crucial support of the Olot Municipal School of Music. The generosity of the team, who allowed us access to their excellent facilities, made it possible for our rehearsals and concert to take place smoothly and in complete comfort. Right from the start they made us feel at home, providing not only the necessary tools but also a constant collaboration that made every aspect of the process simpler and at the same time more meaningful.

The project was a demonstration of the power of genuine teamwork, where the generosity of everyone involved, without exception, was the driving force behind each step towards the end result.

It was not just the premiere of two pieces but the birth of an artistic dialogue which, beyond the notes, proved a deeply human experience that will echo into the future.

A sincere thank you to everyone who was part of this adventure; their dedication and effort were the soul of the project.
