MARIA TARRAGÓ
From Monday, 11 November 2024 to Monday, 18 November 2024
Bio
Maria Tarragó holds a degree in Cinematography and Audiovisuals from ESCAC (Cinema and Audiovisual School of Catalonia) and is currently in her first year of the master's programme in Screenwriting at the same university.
Her film essay Amor Líquido (2022) explores the four life stages—childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age—of a fictional character living in postmodernity. The short film, illustrated with deliberately crude animation, uses sarcasm and raw humour to portray the fleeting nature of contemporary romantic relationships. It aims to illuminate Zygmunt Bauman’s philosophy and critically expose how individuals are reduced to mere consumer goods in a capitalist society that rejects everything.
This academic project was part of the off-selection at the fourth edition of the u22 festival. Juliol 22 (2023) is an autofiction that emerges from the creator’s encounter with the only existing tapes from her childhood—remnants of her past that she does not remember. She has always shaped her identity through an entirely artificial notion of her past; these tapes, which she has long desired, now cause her immense anxiety as they threaten to shatter her self-image and force her to start anew. This short film is still in post-production and awaiting its festival circuit début.
Project
At Faberllull, Maria will be working on the script for the series Les pixapixies, co-written with Alex Revers.
