ROXANA RÜGNITZ GARABEDIAN
Literature teacher and theatre critic
Montevideo (Uruguay)

Bio

Roxana Rügnitz is a literature teacher at secondary school and teacher training levels. As a theatre critic in the print media, she is a member of the Uruguayan Theatre Critics Association.

She has authored books on poetry and, more recently, the biography of Uruguayan actor Julio Calcagno.

Currently, she is writing a book on Uruguayan women playwrights from the late 20th and early 21st centuries for INAE, the National Institute of Stage Arts of Uruguay.

She is the co-creator and editor of the virtual and print magazine Pell Alterna (www.pielalternarevista.com). She is also part of the teaching research team Relido (Latin American Network for Teaching Inclusion), which includes Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia and Uruguay.

Project

Her goal at Faberllull is to develop a creative writing piece in a poetic literary format as part of the research she is conducting for a project on the emergence of female playwrights in Uruguay from the late 20th to early 21st centuries, funded by the Institute of Stage Arts.

Breaking away from formal writing generates a dual demand that involves linking the documentary aspect with a creative process capable of stripping away cold procedures to convey the voices of those involved, in dialogue with the writer. It is an attempt to play with what is known in theatre as “autofiction” in a non-theatrical context, using words and experiences, and incorporating the writer’s emotional journey.
