Bio

Silvia Pérez Criado is a doctoral researcher and FPI fellow at the López Piñero Interuniversity Institute of the University of Valencia. Her thesis focuses on the study of DDT in Spain during the period from 1939 to 1986. Since 2020, she has been a Student Ambassador of the Society for the History of Alchemy and Chemistry (SHAC) and, since 2023, the secretary of the Working Party on the History of Chemistry.

She has a solid academic background, having completed a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry at the University of Granada in 2014, a Master's in History of Science and Scientific Communication (with an extraordinary award) at the University of Valencia in 2015, and another Master's in Science Education at the University of Granada in 2016. Her academic career has been recognized with a four-month fellowship from the Science History Institute in Philadelphia, as well as two New Scholar Awards from the SHAC, among other.

Project

She recently submitted her doctoral thesis titled “A History of DDT in Spain (1939–1986): Uses, Risks and Regulations”, which is currently under assessment. Her new project, part of her PhD research contract (2021–2025), will focus on the development of the pesticide chemical industry, with a special emphasis on DDT.
