Bio

Kathleen Histon is an invertebrate paleontologist and stratigrapher. She obtained a PhD in Geology at Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) with research on Irish Carboniferous nautiloid cephalopods. Her post-doctoral studies concentrated on the Silurian stratigraphy and palaeontology of the Carnic Alps of Austria and Italy, with research grants at the University of Modena (Italy) and the Geologische Bundesanstalt, the Austrian Geological Survey, in Vienna.

She has a strong interest in the history of palaeontology and stratigraphy in the 19th and 20th centuries and is a member for Ireland and currently Publications and Outreach Coordinator board member of the International Commission on the History of Geological Sciences (INHIGEO) of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS).

Project

She will participate in the activities related to the thematic residency “Earth Sciences: history, science and society” and contribute to the associated thematic sessions on history of geology of the conference organized by the Catalan Society of History of Science.

Her research interests are currently focused on “Hidden Histories in Paleontology” regarding how history of palaeontology can be used as an effective tool for science popularization within museums, teaching, meetings, exhibitions and other cultural events in society.
