Bio

Peter Brazil is an Irish artist based in Paris. He is currently working on his first novel, a collection of poetry to be published and his oil paintings. His work refers to Ireland and its history and culture, from mythological narratives, to the devastation caused by the colonisation of Ireland. Peter completed two residencies in March, one for his poetry in Tbilisi, Georgia, and one for prose in Toulon, France.

Project

The book that I am writing covers many aspects of Irish culture, through the people and their way of thinking and being. I want to work more on developing my characters and their way of grieving the loss of a friend/daughter. Looking beyond and into ways of grief, the hidden passages or the obvious door. Said orally or signed in a language, found in the landscape, growing within an oak tree, or drank from a pint of stout. I will focus on the dialogue one shares to others and the one that one keeps only for them, in the walls that build the head. My novel is called ‘A Map To Cut Into’.

Step off, take a left and another left, walk straight, you'll meet a river, take the path on the right to avoid the heat. Shade, covered by it until the roundabout. At the roundabout continue ahead. The path is not clear. There are mountains to the right. They seem to want to cover the sky. Forest and bush and the tips of trees. The green of Catalonian trees seems to be a very specific green.

Being welcomed at Faber Llull Olot was an amazing experience, quite an unforgettable one. From the location of the residency to the treatment of each person by Pepa and Andreu. We had lots of time to work privately and much given time to become friends with eachother. I am very grateful to have spent time in Olot, there is something magical there, that I am sure!
