SEMRA FOGEL
Sound-designer, electronic music-producer and singer-songw
Tbilisi, Georgia

Bio

Semra Fogel is an pacifist, feminist, sound-designer, singer-songwriter and a music producer of Azerbaijani origin, born in Moscow and currently based in Tbilisi, Georgia.

As an artist, Semra is deeply passionate about the transformative power of music and its power to create immersive and emotional experiences. By far, she has written music and sound design for a short film ‘Dance’, an Augmented reality project ‘Road Signs’, an animated poem ‘I want you to live’, created music and sound-design for two YouTube channels about science and space, a small theatre project at the beginning of their work and conducted several antiwar workshops for poets teaching them to create background music for their artwork.

Semra has her own music project - Semra and Enumen (on Spotify and other streaming platforms), which stands for the main message behind her music. «Enumen» is a short version for énouement — «the bittersweetness of having arrived here in the future, seeing how things turn out, but unable to tell your past self» from The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows by John Koenig.

Project

I am looking forward to working with an international team of emerging talents in cinema industry. I was honoured to receive acceptance for the position of Sound Director in the Hackathon: cinema residency for young talents.

I will be responsible for all the sound in the film we are creating and I am planning to write music and sound-effects based on the script. As I am proficient with Anaglyph, the program that allows to create 3D sound experience (usually used in VR, cinema, game-development), I would love experiment and add something very special to our film.

Before my arrival, I was a music producer and composer. On the day of my departure I was already a boom operator, a sound mixer, music editor, head of the Sound department, peace mediator, a friend and someone who survived the flu and 24-hour-long working day.

I learned tremendously a lot. Whole new profession from scratch, interaction in a team of young cinema industry professionals, found several new ways to create suspense as a music composer and skill to delegate something I wanted to do myself - for the sake of the team and post-production timings.

I am extremely grateful to Faberlull for this opportunity, for a warm welcome in Olot, for the friendships I built, challenges we overcame together and the experience of continuous creativity and learning. I experienced Catalan culture and cuisine and I am impressed with the authenticity and beauty of them.

Now the post-production team is finishing the last details of the Silent Shadows and I am excited at the prospects of our film.

Best cinema hackathon experience. Thank you.
