HELGA FLAMTERMESKY
Doctor in social psychology
Barcelona/ Colombia

Bio

I was born in Colombia, a country deeply affected by the war. I have lived in Barcelona for 23 years, where I have been able to develop as an activist in support of immigrant and refugee women. I have also trained as a doctor in social psychology.

I am a member of Mujer Diaspora, an NGO that provides healing and emotional management strategies to women who have suffered trauma from the war in their country of origin or during their migration process. We have developed our own methodology that we call Active Memory, focused on listening and artistic creation, with which we seek to reconstruct and give value to women's stories and identify new emotions that are linked to their memories. We work with women from Ukraine, Syria, Afghanistan, and Latin America. On a personal level, I am also currently exploring the support that dogs can offer in the management of chronic illness and trauma.

Project

In Olot I will be accompanying the women of Ukraine, having individual dialogues to delve into emotions or feelings that they want to explore, or specific dialogues around the psychological processes that war generate and that are often difficult to mention. I believe that our dialogues can contribute to their artistic production, which would also have an impact on their psychosocial well-being.

I deeply believe that when women listen to each other and dialogue, we generate powerful transformations in our lives and in our communities.
