Video artist and writer

Kateryna Krokha works in the audiovisual field in Ukraine. She studied Sociology and Anglo-American literature. She has been working as a video editor for 5 years and also tried herself as a video operator and director. For her works, she uses a combination of different arts. In most cases, it is a combination of video and texts. But sometimes, it can be separate. With the help of these methods, she explores the environment and herself to build stories.

"These landscapes are so unusual for me" - my interlocutor from the west said when I showed a photo of my home. This phrase emphasizes the feeling that haunts me when I think: "Who am I or where I came from?" The aim is to build a memory/text based on the footage I shot when I was at home and create an art object ( 2-3 minutes). I was born in the eastern part of Ukraine, Donetsk region. This area is industrial and not very explored. I grew up there, studied and worked, even under such conditions it is difficult for me to describe. This region suffered from colonialism and now suffers from russian artillery to be wiped off the face of the earth. I`m faced with new questions: "What was mine and what part of identity was stolen by aggressors?". I want to be able to return home at any time. This prompts me to raise archives, ancestor's letters, films, poems and build artificial memories, to grasp something and preserve my past. I`ll try to assemble broken fragments into a whole, as much as I can do it.
