Video artist and writer
Ukraine

Bio

Kateryna Krokha works in the audiovisual field in Ukraine. She studied Sociology and Anglo-American literature. She has been working as a video editor for 5 years and also tried herself as a video operator and director. For her works, she uses a combination of different arts. In most cases, it is a combination of video and texts. But sometimes, it can be separate. With the help of these methods, she explores the environment and herself to build stories.

Project

On the night of June 6, Russian invaders blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant (HPP), located a few kilometers from the temporarily occupied city of Nova Kakhovka in Ukraine's southern Kherson region. Because the dam was destroyed, the water in the Kakhovka reservoir began to fall rapidly, threatening to flood Kherson and nearby towns and villages.” - Rubryka

I filmed flooded streets in Kherson, people, animals that were rescued from the water, and also wrote my personal impression. In Olot, I plan to start work on editing the material. I want to build a structure. As a result, it should be a short film based on the text.

Thank you very much for the opportunity to try my skills in new circumstances.

It was a progressive time that assisted me in achieving my long-term goals.

It was a balance between individual practice and activities.

I started my project in Olot and now have a plan for what I want to continue here in Ukraine.

The workshop "Mosaic" for art school students became my discovery.

The history and concept of the cut-up technique.

I showed how I used it in my projects.

The method was created by the Dadaists of the 1920s but was popularized in the 1950s - 1960s by writer William S. Burroughs.

After the activity, students have a product of their creativity.

Also, participants saw original poems and could meet with another point of view.

The activity is an attempt to give an understanding that they are capable of writing and that every person can create, just should decide their method.

Also to see how the same worlds can be built into another story depending on previous experience.

I see that I have ideas for project organization and presentation.

During residence, I heard really important feedback from other participants and students.

Thanks to the entire residence team for the support, as well as the Institut Ramon Llull for the opportunity.

Special thanks to Ana Isabel, she did a lot to make us feel comfortable and she succeeded
