Doctor in education, professor, researcher and artist
Renteria (Gipuzkoa, Spain)

Esther Uria Iriarte holds a PhD in Education. She has obtained the Extraordinary Doctorate Award for her thesis on theatre as a pedagogical resource to promote coexistence in the context of secondary education. In addition to having developed her career as a professional actor in theatre, film and television, she has a degree in Special Education and Psychopedagogy. She is currently a professor in Educational Sciences at the University of the Basque Country and is a member of the research group GANDERE (Gender Socialisation and Educational Contexts). She currently provides training in relation to theatre/drama in education. She has published several articles in international journals related to this line of research. Since 2017, she has also directed the educational-artistic project "Being part of the creative process", promoted by the Union of Basque Actors and funded by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia.

The objective of our proposed time at FABER-Olot is to work collectively on an emerging project that integrates the aesthetics and artistry of professional theatre into pedagogical, scholarly, and community-based settings. Through this work, we will explore specific ways to effectively engage and activate the public through rich dialogue stimulated by theatre-based work that centers on current social issues such as mental health, as well as equity, diversity and inclusion. We wish to learn from one another and build on each other’s knowledge and commitments to social and health equity.
