Bio

Geophysicist, Research Director at Osservatorio Vesuviano (INGV) in Naples (Italy). Experience in physical modeling of volcanic processes and volcanic hazard assessment. Director of Osservatorio Vesuviano (between 2001 and 2007). Member of the "Commissione Grandi Rischi - Settore Rischio Vulcanico" in support of the decisions of the Department of Civil Protection (DPC), Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri. Member of the DPC Commissions for the National Emergency Plans of Vesuvius and Campi Flegrei. Coordinator of the Center for Volcanic Hazard of INGV (between 2016 and 2021). Editor of the European journal Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences (NHESS). Winner of the IAVCEI Wager Medal in 1998. Member of the Academia Europaea since 2019.

During my residency I will give a talk for students: "The Italian volcanoes: surveillance and hazard assessment" and another one for general public: “The Italian volcanoes: hazard and recent crises"
