Bio
Dr. Ben Beeckmans is a belgian who lives in Ibiza for over 40 years.He studied fisical geography, environmental sciences and volcanology in Brussels and Hawaii.During the nineties he organized environmental projects centered on the islands of Ibiza and Formentera in collaboration with the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona and the Unversidad de la Islas Belears.During the last 20 years his activities are focused on volcanism in the East African Rift, where he works in Tanzania.He is the director of Ecoscience, Science Center and Luxury Lodge, where scientists from all over the world gather to carry out their investigations in the area.During the last decade Ben gives lectures in volcanology at the Nelson Mandela African Institution for Science and Technology.
Project
During my stay in Olot I will give a lecture on the general principles of volcanology that facilitates the understanding of the East African rift system. We will explain the geomorphology of the area. And a second lecture in which we will explain the general principles of volcanology, but this time the topic will be the evolution of the East African Rift in northern Tanzania over the last 8 million years.
