Project

The work attempts to show how autoethnographic writing, research and art making can reveal a complex narrative of Afrikaner whiteness and its relationship to silence and secrecy. This will be done by studying interpersonal relationships, cultural tradition, lived experience and generational belief through methods such as self-writing, art making, critical analysis of texts and interviews with family members. Through queering space, familial space/domestic space and the transgression of my body through my art practice, I am able to suggest a means of transformative action that takes the form of decolonial theory and its methods such as unlearning.
