From Friday, 23 September 2022 to Friday, 30 September 2022
Bio
Joan Ferrarons i Llagostera holds a PhD in translation and intercultural studies from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).
He has translated Kafka, Hesse, Nietzsche, Suttner and Lenz into Catalan. In 2020 he won the Translation Prize awarded by the Catalan PEN for his version of Kafka’s “The Castle”.
He currently works as an associate lecturer in the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, UAB, and collaborates with the publishing services of the City Council of Barcelona.
Project
The project I will be working on during the ViceVersa seminar is the translation of the first pages of Kafka’s “The Trial”, which I am translating for the Catalan publishing house Club Editor. The source text for my translation is the critical edition established by a team of philologists headed by Malcolm Pasley, known as the “Handfassung” or “manuscript version”.
