COLBY THERIAULT SMITH
From Wednesday, 11 May 2022 to Tuesday, 31 May 2022
Bio
Colby Theriault Smith is a filmmaker exploring themes within local culture, human connection, nature, and surrealism. Colby graduated with a bachelor's degree in film production from San Diego State University in 2019. He has traveled extensively abroad to places such as Cambodia, Turkey, and Sweden to partake in documentary creation. In November of 2020, he spent one month living in Bayramic, Turkey, with a local couple. There he helped with their olive harvest while simultaneously filming the daily life of the couple and their workers. This experiment turned into the short film Elinize Sağlık (Health to your Hands).
Project
During my stay I plan on making a shooting an experimental nature film that highlights the natural serenity of Coma Pedrosa and Parc Natural Comunal de les Valls del Comapedrosa. My goal is to capture the peaks, valleys, lakes, tarns, plants and wildlife of the region and shape it into an experimental short film, comparable to a collage.
My stay at Faber Andorra was a true immersive experience. I stayed for exactly three weeks. This was enough time for me to feel like a local. From the very start I felt at home. Much of my time was spent in nature as that was the theme of my project. I went to ComaPedrosa Nature Reserve about many times throughout my stay, as this was the subject of my project. Two nights were spent camping out at the refuge about halfway up the mountain. The scenery up in the mountains is magnificent as you look upon the whole country of Andorra. The people I met during my stay were all incredible. Meritxell was my host and she was always very organized and communicative. She introduced me to so many people and organized all of my activities. This residency truly makes you feel welcomed into Andorra!
