Bio

Cornel-Peter Rodenbusch is a historian of the Middle Ages and specializes in the history of law in Catalonia.
He studied at the University of Tübingen in medieval history and archeology as well as the science of religions. His interest in Catalonia was already formed during his studies and culminated in a final project dedicated to a historiographer of Catalonia and a stay as the first international fellow at the Institut d'Estudis Catalans. He then worked for a season as a tourist guide, specializing in families and groups interested in the medieval history of Catalonia.
He recently completed his PhD in Medieval Cultures at the University of Barcelona under the direction of Josep Maria Salrach and Blanca Garí. He is currently collaborating on a research project to create the second volume of a diplomatic collection of judicial sources and 12th century conflict resolution in Catalonia.

Project

The proposed project is the start of a study related to the function of the saig in Andorra in the Middle Ages. It is based on the results of research done by the doctoral thesis that already covers the time up to the year 1130. The aim of the stay would be to become familiar with the archives as much as to prepare a possible publication if the funds allow it.

My stay in Andorra has been fruitful not only to get to know the country but also to start studying its history by contributing my knowledge as a medievalist specializing in medieval Catalan law.

The welcome and the effort to facilitate new contacts for the future has been very good and I am very grateful to have been able to live this experience. Especially the possibility of sharing parts of my doctoral thesis with a general audience was very important to meet new people in this regard.

Despite not having a car with a public transport card, I was able to travel without problems between La Massana and Andorra la Vella to access the National Archive and its sources.

The residence is a quiet place where you will find everything you need to work and be comfortable and focus on work. All this has been a unique and special experience that I will not quickly forget. Thank you so much.
